The Apsara Authority, which oversees the Angkor Archaeological Park in Siem Reap province, announced the ban on drones flying over the famed park ruins.
Authorities claim the ban will ensure the safety of tourists, promote historic preservation of the sites, prevent a negative impact on the structures of the ancient temples as well as maintain security on the properties.
The letter noted that permission to use drones will be considered on a case-by-case basis if applications make them in advance with the authorities. Illegal use of drones in the park will be investigated by local police.
Drones have also been prohibited from flying over Phnom Penh’s airspace since February last year.
