The seventh edition of Sancharaka Udawa will be held at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Centre at BMICH on 5 to 6 May 2017. This event, which is organised by the Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO), provides a platform to showcase products and services offered by lesser known companies of the island’s tourism industry.
This year, there will be more than 190 companies or individuals showcasing their products or services. The exhibitors range from boutique hotels, guesthouses and camping operators on the accommodation offerings as well as adventure and activity service providers such as Jeep safari, rafting, canoeing and surfing operators from regions around the island.
Due to the success of the seminars that were held last year during the exhibition on various topics related to the tourism industry, the organisers are planning to add several seminars to this years’ exhibition. These seminars will be open to all visitors free of charge and provide young graduates and others interested in the tourism with the opportunity to learn more about the industry and explore the variety of career opportunities available to them.
This exhibition was first organised on a small scale seven years ago and has grown significantly over the years. In 2016, Sancharaka Udawa had more than 160 companies and over 6,000 visitors. The organisers believe that this year the numbers will grow further. Even with the rise in popularity, its focus remains the same to provide a platform for small and medium service providers to exhibit and meet their buyers under one roof.
