Vietnam

Vietnam has often lagged behind the rest of the Asian economic giants but over the last few years development has reached a frenetic pace with new hotels and office buildings springing up everywhere. The development of golf has been just as extraordinary with around 20 golf courses already open and as many as another 30 at some stage of planning or construction.

Last year Vietnam was chosen as the "Undiscovered Golf Destination of the Year" by the International Association of Golf Travel Operators (IAGTO) and rightly so as it now its offers a fantastic choice of golf courses designed by some of the most famous names in golf.

In future years Vietnam will be providing stiff competition for Thailand when it comes to golf tours in the Far East.

Cambodia

Just a short flight from Bangkok is Siem Reap which most people visit to see the amazing temple complex of Angkor Wat which is well worth the effort of dragging yourself off the golf course for at least one day.

What is less well known is that Siem Reap is also home to two of the best golf courses in the region. In early 2007 the Sofitel Phokeethra Country Club was opened, and then Nick Faldo opened the Angkor Golf Resort in 2008– which is not only the best course in Cambodia but probably one of the best maintained courses in the Asia-Pacific region.

Thailand

Thailand is rapidly establishing itself as one of the major golfing destinations around the world and is home to some of the most spectacular courses in Asia, combining breathtaking tropical beauty with unique and interesting challenges. There are many different types of courses on offer including challenging championship designs, friendlier resort-style courses and others in the foothills of the north and close to the golden beaches in the south.

What makes playing golf so enjoyable is that everywhere you play you will be accompanied by your own very knowledgeable caddie. They are usually female, although not always, and they will do everything to make your round of golf memorable and are always on hand with a cold towel, refreshing beer and a ready smile.

China

Everyone is aware of the speed with which this country has developed and the golf industry has been expanding at the same blistering pace with more than 200 courses opened in the past twenty years. Most of the world’s leading players and course designers have put their name to at least one course and with the funds available to them have built some amazing courses

China has a huge and growing middle class and for them golf is a real status symbol. It will not be long before we see Chinese players starting to dominate the world of professional golf. To compliment this array of superb courses there is the amazing history and culture of China which makes a golfing holiday to this part of the world truly memorable.

Singapore

Although small in size, Singapore’s influence on Asia-pacific and the world is very much larger than its size suggests. In reality, Singapore is a busy multi-cultural city that offers some of the highest living standards in the region and some great tourist attractions which is populated by people from many different ethnic backgrounds and religious beliefs.

There is so much to do here you might want to stay longer with museums and galleries to visit, a colourful nightlife scene, rainforests and gardens and several existing and newly opened theme parks. As you would expect there are also a superb collection of golf courses here and also on the nearby island of Bintan.
