GREEN RAINY SEASON welcomes you!
Did you think Cambodia should be avoided during the rainy season? Wrong, people here call it the green season and read now why this is a wonderful time to visit Cambodia!
Rice
June to early October is the rainy season, which we here like to call the Green Season, during which temperatures are relatively cool (average 25-30 c). Across most of the country, the rains are fairly predictable, usually occurring in the afternoon or at night. And the afternoon rains usually last no more than a couple of hours making them fairly easy to plan around. August and September can see more rain in the daytime. Rainfall varies considerably from area to area.
Farmers
The rain changes the landscape dramatically. During this time, all the vegetations come to life, the rice fields are green, the temple ponds are full and the jungle gives a magical aura of ancient times.
The temples of Angkor are at their aesthetic best during the wet season. The surrounding moats and reflecting pools are full, the jungle is lush and moisture bring outs the colors of the moss and lichen covered stones of the temples. And it must be said that there are fewer tourists in the country and the temples are less crowded.
Outside the cities, the rice paddies are full of water and green with new rice, the countryside is picturesque and alive green as far as the eye can see, with only houses and palm trees poking up above the thick carpet of young rice plants. Farmers are planting rice and the whole country is busy with growing season activity.
The river and lake levels are high making boat travel easy but some roads sometimes deteriorate or become temporarily flooded.
The rainy season is when there's an abundant opportunity for taking beautiful pictures.
If you're looking forward to experience the lush greenery that makes the temples magical, and roam the ancient city under a cooler climate, see the green rice plants bending with the blowing wind in long and huge fields then Cambodia during the rainy season is for you!

CAMBODIAN COOKING BY SALA BAI
Cambodian Cooking is one of the few books focusing on Khmer cuisine. Influenced over the years by a wide variety of cooking styles, the food of Cambodia presents a particularly broad range of flavors to surprise the palate and stimulate the taste buds.
This book includes 60 Khmer recipes and an ingredients section with the Cambodian names as well as the Vietnamese or Thai names of the ingredients whenever necessary for ease of shopping.
But the book is not only recipes, it's a solidarity project, created to increase the self-funding part of Sala Baï project. This school provides free vocational training to 100 young disadvantaged Cambodians every year.
Joannès Rivière, the author, is a talented French chef who became a specialist of Cambodian cuisine. He volunteered at Sala Baï from 2003 to 2005

PHNOM PENH, a city delight!
Phnom Penh, the Pearl of Asia, capital of Cambodia at the hub of the three rivers is often overlooked by visitors.
Sunset
Phnom Penh enjoys its own kind of harmony of opposites and offers visitors peaceful moments of a sunset at the riverside as well as its dusty, motorbike-choked labyrinthine alleys and busy colorful markets. The city is an incongruous cluster of crumbling French colonials, and the central riverside area has a pace all its own that's great for walking around. Phnom Penh's packed with history, such as the Royal Palace, a stone showpiece of classical Khmer architecture, and the Silver Pagoda, on the palace grounds, a jewel-encrusted wonder. Examine the painful, heart wrenching reminders of Cambodia's ugly past under the Khmer Rouge regime at the Genocide Museum to learn more about the Cambodian civil war. Throughout the city, you'll see the faded glory of aged French colonial architecture. There are also many notable wats (Buddhist temples) with resident monks. Take a relaxing sunset cruise and watch the city from the other side or get in a cyclo and be amazed by the beautiful architecture. Stroll in Street 240 where you find an array of boutiques, art galleries, shops, bookstores and restaurants. Get a chance to see a shadow puppet performance and eat in a training restaurant at a center for street children. Join a cooking class or take a bike ride to one of the nearby Mekong islands.
Phnom Penh offers plenty of possibilities and makes an interesting and memorable destination for those who take the time to discover!
