Cambodia : The Square 24

The Square 24 (1)

The Square 24 in Siem Reap offers a new interpretation and experience of modern Khmer dining. With the Chef’s flair and passion of freshest ingredients from the markets you will discover authentic Khmer recipes. A brilliant bite just 5 minutes leisurely walk from the Old Market and Pub Street.

The Square 24 (2)

China : 4 hours Imperial City Ride

4 hours Imperial City Ride, Beijing - China

This half day cycle ride takes us through the historic heart of Beijing as well as enjoying its lakes and parks. The route begins taking us past the Drum Tower, which repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt originally marked the centre of the old Mongol capital and where during the Ming Dynasty drums were beaten to mark the hours of the day and the 18th century Bell Tower. Continuing down the Axis Line into beautiful Jingshan Park, we stop to climb to highest Pavilion for a magnificent panoramic view of the Forbidden city and Capital as well as observing the local people doing tai chi or relaxing.

Cycling around the vast moat of the Forbidden City gives a fantastic impression of its imperial grandeur and size as well as some great photographic chances. Crossing the gigantic Tiananman Square, we reach the scenic Beihai Park and Lake where calligraphers practice writing characters on paving slabs with brush and water and families take a stroll. Returning through the traditional but fast fading Hutong way of life, we cycle through the narrow lanes glimpsing into the ancient courtyard homes (Siheyuan)and alongside lakes hanging with willow trees. On some days you may encounter a local Beijing opera performance or street ceremony but on any day during the warmer months the younger people go about their daily work whilst the older people sit outside enjoying a drink, playing chess, mahjong, knitting or simply watching the world go by. En route there are plenty of teahouses and cafes for refreshments.

India : Thrissur Pooram festival – 1st May 2012

Thrissur Pooram festival

Life in Kerala is marked by the annual festivals dedicated to the local temple deities and Thrissur Pooram is one of the major temple festivals celebrated in the Malayalam month of Medom (April-May). It is one of the most spectacular festivals in Kerala, in terms of visual splendour, the grand assembly of caparisoned elephants, amazing pyrotechnic displays, spellbinding ensembles of percussion instruments and enthusiastic crowds and there is no equivalent for it. Traditional musical ensembles like the Panchavadyam and Pandimelam add rhythm to this magical spectacle. It is considered to be the mother of all Poorams, a culture highlight that towers above all other festivals. The festival is unique in its pageantry, magnitude and participation. It is a congregation of various temple deities in Vadakkumnathan temple premises and is also believed that 33 crore devathas (Gods) of Hindu mythology will be present on the Pooram day around the temple grounds.
